John C. McEwen Jr. passed away on February 2, 2025, at Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Forestlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, beginning at 10:00 am. Brother Jerry Starling will officiate the service, and Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 111 Oxford.

He is survived by his wife, Gail McEwen; his children, Jessica McEwen Johnston (Jeff), Jeff McEwen (Tina), and Steven McEwen (Jeanna); his grandchildren, Steven McEwen (Kyra), Cody McEwen (Sydney), Kyle Whitaker (Angela), Brandon Dover, Koy McEwen (Chloe), Jacob Dover (Gabby), Kye McEwen, and many great-grandchildren.

John was originally from Oxford, Mississippi, and graduated from University High School. He later earned a degree from The University of Mississippi (Hotty-Toddy). He served in the United States Air Force and subsequently worked at the Anniston Army Depot until his retirement. John was a deacon and treasurer at Grace Baptist Church. He and his wife Gail were married for over 60 years, and he was a dedicated family man. He was also an active member of American Legion Post 111, ARC 111 (Amateur Radio), and the Calhoun County Amateur Radio Association.
